Help Develop Mindfulness in Palestine and in Israel
April 24 – May 17
Help raise 7000 euros
Dear Friends, we need your support to raise funds for this tour composed of two monks 2 nuns and Wake Up practitioners. Help us create the right conditions for peace, joy and healing activities, especially for the young, in Palestine and Israel, that feel isolated and often in despair. We will be there for 3 weeks offering a 5 Day Retreat, Days of Mindfulness, and informal visits to local groups. Our tour depends entirely on the support of the public and practitioners from around the world.
There is no better time than now to bring the practice to this region. The Plum Village practice can help us touch our true home and true freedom right in the present moment, even in the midst of confusion, despair and suspicion. Through the mindfulness practice and the support of community, we can find the nourishment and healing for ourselves and our loved ones and thus help us handle the challenges and difficulties that confront us and our community.
Wake Up
Our fourfold delegation will explore the Middle East, make connections and lay the foundation for Wake Up retreats and activities both in Israel and Palestine. Our intention is to collaborate with local active peace groups to listen, learn and to share the practice together, especially to the young people.
Our goal also is to simply water seeds of joy and happiness in the people of a region deeply affected by conflicts for more than 70 years. We will meet peace workers, activists, teachers, students, businessmen, environmentalists, refugees, any individuals that could benefit from the practice. We hope to sow good seeds and enrich the soil to create good conditions for the young people so that a future is possible. This could become an ongoing effort to build a Wake Up community in this region.
The project is initiated by the local Sanghas and by the Wake Up practitioners, and from young practitioners in the Plum Village tradition from all over the world.
Who
Sister Mai Nghiem, Sister Luc Nghiem, Brother Phap Dung, Brother Dao Sinh and a small team of international lay wake up practitioners (from France, Italy, Israel, Palestine, Ireland…) will participate in this 2018 Tour. Our aspiration is to lay the foundation to the international Sangha and Wake Up practitioners to come visit and share the practice with this part of the world on a yearly basis.
Where
We will tour in the West Bank from April 24th to May 1st. We will go to Bethlehem, Ramallah, Hebron, Nablus,… to get to know the sanghas that are already active there, support the birth of other ones, especially Wake Up sanghas. There will be public events where anyone will be invited (a 2 days retreat in Bethlehem, a day of mindfulness in nature,…), special moments to nourish the local sanghas by attending to their monthly get together and there will also be opportunities for the delegation to go to people informally (in Hebron, Nablus, etc.).
The second week will be dedicated to an all ages sangha retreat, in Neve Shalom, Israel. This is an independent project. That retreat has been going on for a few years now and is independently funded.
The third week, we will have a set of Wake Up activities and events in Israel. We will meet with activists, students, refugees, artists, ex-soldiers and we will gather all together, nourishing our joy, for days of mindfulness and days in nature with the Wake Up Tel AViv sangha. This young sangha needs our support to bloom!
